Living on purpose gives you meaning and excitement in life, but it requires that you first know what the purpose of your life is. What is it? The purpose or meaning of your life is actually greater than your career, than your ambitions; it is also more than your own personal fulfillment. Many people just ask themselves questions like, what is my dream for the next five years. What will I do? Who do I want to be? Still that does not yet settle the quest for your purpose. Instead you need to find out God’s original purpose for your life. Only then will you be able to test if your activities are in line with the true purpose for your life. Only then will you be able to ask yourself, “Do these activities help me to fulfill God’s purposes in my life? Then you can concentrate your time and effort on what’s important – yes, you can be selective. Just ask God to help you to find your purpose and ask Him for wisdom do become efficient in what you are doing. He will grant you that request.
People often make choices just based on their moods, on pressures and on circumstances. Yet the important thing is to know what God says about your life and not what people expect. In Matthew 22: 37-38 we read that the most important thing is that we should know God’s character and that we should love Him with the whole of our heart, with the whole of our soul and with the whole of our mind. God really wants to have a relationship with us. Relationship means fellowship. Relationship will not happen if the action comes just from one site. It needs the response from the other side too. Yes, it requires actions from both sides.
A good relationship develops because both parties do their part. Each does actions to please the other and to make the other happy. If you have a friend and you’re really interested in that friendship, you will start to find out all about your friends liking, history, etc. and the more you pursue the relationship with your friend, the better you will know the character of your friend. Now, that is amazing if you apply this understanding to your relationship with God. He actually said in Hosea 6:6 that He doesn’t want our sacrifices, He in fact wants our love, He doesn’t want our offerings, but He does want us to know Him. Isn’t that incredible? If the big and famous people on earth would come to your living room and request a close relationship with you – how would your feel?
And here it is God Himself speaking to you. Truly famous, really big and absolutely powerful is He. Relationship with Him is the foremost purpose of your life and if you really catch that reality, there will be some side effects naturally following; they could be called secondary purposes. That is, you will just be excited to pass on to other people the love God is putting in you. So anything you do will be according to His heart, any words coming out from your mouth will be words of encouragement bringing life to others and anything you think will be based on His truth. And you will keep enjoying His presence, His goodness and His blessing. (Samuel Winfried B. Founder El-Art)
